Ambury Park Wetlands

Ambury Regional Park

The Ambury Regional Park is a beautiful nature reserve on the edge of Mangere bridge. The park features several different walks. The main one leads through the wetlands along the coast line and is a great walk for people who love birds. There is a bird watching hut that allows people to sit down and watch the Pukeko colonies that nest here.

After walking through the lava fields at the end of the wetlands walk, you will end up at a fork. Behind the gate on the right-hand side starts the Watercare Coastal Walk (shore fishing is restricted but allowed around this walk). Following the way on the left-hand leads back to the start of the wetlands track, where the car park and picnic area is.

From there people can also choose to do the Lost Gardens Walk, the third walk in the area. All this is just few hundred meters away from Mangere Mountain and I highly recommend going up there afterwards. The top of the mountain allows a good view of its two volcano craters but also of the surrounding areas.
