Otuataua Stonefields Historic Reserve
The Otuataua Stonefields Historic Reserve is a wonderful weekend destination, just outside of Mangere. There are three short walks in the area; the historical walk, the botanical walk and the geographical walk. All three walks can be done within one afternoon and are great for families with kids.
Please note that this area is a sacred place for the descendants of Te Wai O Hua and Waikato Iwi of the Tainui waka. The area is of archaeological and spiritual importance, please show your respect by staying within the marked walks and don´t climb on top of the Puketaapapa volcano. Out of respect, please don´t bring or consume any food within the Otuataua Stonefields Historic Reserve. You may bring bottled water though.
Other than the beautiful old trees, walls and fences made out of volcanic rock and rolling green hills, there are paths down to the waterfront.
