Discover some of the North Shore’s prettiest playgrounds

One of the things we love most about living in Auckland is that beauty can be found in the most unexpected places. For example, these five pretty parks on Auckland’s North Shore, where a trip to the playground is as picturesque as it is fun.

Takapuna Beach Reserve Playground

The playground at Takapuna Beach has some of the best kids’ play equipment on the North Shore. There’s a giant fort, huge curly slides, climbing nets, hammocks and more. It’s set right on the beachfront, where the view through the mature Pohutukawa and across the sparkling harbour to Rangitoto is spectacular at any time of year.

Onepoto Domain, Northcote

Nestled in a volcanic crater, Onepoto Domain has a cool paved cycling track as well as a flying fox, miniature climbing wall and monkey bars. The walking loop takes you over a fascinating wetland, through regenerating native bush and beside the pretty lake. You’d never know it was just a stone’s throw from the motorway and harbour bridge.

Little Shoal Bay, Birkenhead

Not only does Little Shoal Bay have swings, climbing structures and new shade sales to protect the kids from the summer sun, but it boasts one of the best views in Auckland of the harbour bridge and upper harbour area.

Windsor Reserve, Devonport

This lovely park has views all around, with the inner harbour on one side and Devonport’s quaint shops and cafes on the other. It’s in the process of getting a brand new lighthouse-inspired playground and also houses the Devonport Library.

Manuka Reserve, Bayview

A true hidden gem, this neighbourhood park is nestled right at the end of the Bayview peninsula. Stand on the boat ramp on a still morning at full tide, and you’d hardly believe you were in suburban Auckland. The playground is about to get a fabulous makeover, and there’s also a very popular dog park.
