Mexico – Ellerslie

Dinner at Mexico – Ellerslie is one of my favourite local go-tos — especially when I’m craving good vibes and even better margaritas.

Let’s start with the real star of the night: my peach and passionfruit margarita. Actually… make that a whole carafe of peach and passionfruit margarita. No regrets. It was fruity, refreshing, and dangerously easy to drink. One thing I love about Mexico is the huge range of margarita flavours on offer. Even better, they have plenty of sugar-free options too — perfect for anyone diabetic or simply keeping an eye on their sugar intake. It’s always nice to see inclusivity on a drinks menu.

I arrived a little early, so I ordered guacamole and chips while waiting for my friend. The mild guac, which was fresh, vibrant and full of flavour without too much heat. The freshly cooked tostadas were crisp and warm — the perfect scoop for that creamy avocado goodness.

Next up: esquites. The blackened corn was cooked to perfection, smoky and slightly charred, and that onion crema? Absolutely delicious. Creamy, slightly tangy, and such an interesting flavour combination. It’s one of those dishes that surprises you in the best way.

My friend ordered a lychee margarita (paired with another flavour I can’t quite remember!) along with chimichangas that looked seriously inviting. Golden, crispy, and generously filled — they disappeared pretty quickly, which says it all.

I’ve been here a few times before and, if I’m honest, I’ve found the service a little hit and miss in the past. But tonight? Top notch. Drinks and food came out quickly, staff were attentive, and the whole experience felt smooth and welcoming.

Great margaritas, flavour-packed food, and service that delivered — safe to say I’ll be back (and probably orderig another carafe). 🍹
