7 of the best Auckland pastimes

Auckland is an incredible city with so much to offer tourists, but what about us Aucklanders? What can we do to entertain ourselves and have a little fun after work and on weekends? There is plenty to do for the tourists, so we don’t have to worry about them, but we need to take care of ourselves too and ensure that work isn’t the only thing we do!

If you feel a little jaded and are stuck in a working routine in Auckland, we can help! We have listed some fun pastimes and activities you could do or even start as a hobby. There is something for everyone, both online and in the real world, including sports, gaming, fitness and more – enjoy!

  • Have some fun with online pokies

New Zealanders are spoilt for choice when it comes to pokies, and there are some fantastic Paysafe casino  options and other online platforms where you can relax and have fun playing slots. There are big jackpot games like Mega Moolah with millions of dollars on the line or well-known themed titles like Gonzo’s Quest and Starburst. Pokies allow you to win money potentially, but they have a fun gaming aspect too, so why not give some a try?

  •  Support your local team with sports betting

New Zealand always has some sports action available, whether it’s the T20 World Cup or rugby tournaments. There is an incredible range of local teams in Auckland, such as the Auckland Tuatara, Auckland Rugby and Auckland City FC. Why not show your love for your local teams and place a few cheeky wagers on sports betting sites? This can make the games more interesting, especially if you place live, in-play bets, but you could also win a little extra spending cash!

  •   Challenge others from around the world at online gaming

We get that sometimes you want a fun activity from the comfort of your home, so why not turn your console or PC on and do a little online gaming? Top games like Fortnite, Call of Duty and Valorant all have dedicated Oceanic servers that give fantastic connection speeds for New Zealanders, so get your headset on and start competing!

  •     Get the adrenaline pumping with extreme sports

Perhaps you feel bored with your daily life and want some excitement. We completely understand this, and Auckland has some unique extreme sports and activities to have a go at. Skydiving? Bungy jumping? How about skateboarding? You name it, and you can find it here!

  •    Develop your palate at an Auckland restaurant

Are you getting sick of the same dishes every night and want to revive your dormant palate? We can quickly get stuck in cooking routines, so you could spice things up (literally) and try to reserve at least one night per week when you dine out at a new restaurant. Auckland has a fantastic range of venues, and while the specialty tends to be seafood, there are plenty of other cuisines to try too.

  •   Get fit by joining a sports club

We have some incredible sporting facilities and teams in Auckland, and everyone knows just how big sports are in this country. Perhaps you used to play sport but have long since stopped or fallen out of practice. If so, there are plenty of opportunities in Auckland to find your love of sport again, and you can find loads of local teams for cricket, rugby and football – some are even dedicated to a specific age range!

We are blessed in New Zealand to have a diverse biodiversity, both inland and in the surrounding oceans, and this means if you are a nature lover, there are plenty of opportunities. When the season is right, why not take to the waters and go on a whale-watching trip? Just because this is an everyday activity in Auckland doesn’t mean you can’t have fun and marvel at these incredible mammals!

Start a hobby or find that love again for an old pastime in Auckland today!

We have some great activities and pastimes here in Auckland, and it’s always good to have something else to do besides work. As the saying goes, all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, so why not try one of these activities and either step out of your comfort zone or rediscover a hobby you once loved?
